Indian River and Mosquito Lagoon Fishing Information

Tarpon is a great game fish and can reach sizes of 150+ pounds. Whether it
be live bait or fly, the thrill of sight casting a fighting a tarpon is a
fisherman’s dream. They average 70-90 pounds while juvenile tarpon range
from 10-50 pounds. They can be caught year round and almost always put up
a fight making the excitement for catching one even greater.
Snook is a hard fighting game fish as well and lie deep within mangrove roots
and under water structures waiting to ambush bait fish. They range
from 5-10 pounds and can grow up to 25 pounds and be caught sight casting on
shallow flats and potholes and are good year round.
Trout travel through deep channels and along the sea grass beds. They are
plentiful and will take a wide variety of bait such as live bait, jibs, spoons,
crank baits and top water lures.
Redfish are caught around mangrove islands while roaming the flats, sometimes in
such shallow water half their body is out of the water. They
are great for beginners allowing multiple casts at close range. Redfish
are easier to cast than bonefish. They average 4-8 pounds up to as much as
15 pounds and good catch year round.
